Illustration Friday - Urban
When I saw this week's Illustration Friday topic I thought of cities and city birds. Will's brother, Frank, lives in Tokyo and has recently been taking some awesome photos of the environment. One which caught my imagination in particular was of a train station, taken with a type of fish-eye lens, so I used that as reference when drawing the landscape.
Also this week I saw a news story which showed flocks of thousands of starlings flying through the sky in great billowing cloud-like formations (this is called a murmuration of starlings, which is my new favourite word!) The reason this story made the news is because this event occured above a built-up residential area, whereas it normally happens in the countryside where there are many more trees. Hence my combination of a murmuration of starlings above a city skyline!

ReplyDeleteThank you Katrin!
DeleteI really like starlings yes they can be a bit of a bully bird at bird tables but their feathers are so beautiful and when they fly in a flock it is amazing to see. Your illustration is superb and you have captured their feathers beautifully.
ReplyDeleteThank you Chibi! They can be pretty territorial..! But such characters - I used to feed about a dozen every day that came to my bird table in my old garden - they were crazy and funny and I loved to watch them :)
