Sunburst Chicken

I was very much inspired by the Illustration Friday topic of 'Chicken' a couple of weeks ago, but I've only gotten round to finishing the picture now.

I found some lovely reference of a mother hen;  she was so puffed up and plump that her feathers looked like bit like a lion's mane, or the head of a sunflower.

    Sometimes it take me weeks to getting around to finally making an illustration for Illustration Friday, but it's usually worth it. This one sure is. What an incredible feather-patterns, and I love the color!
