For this week's Illustration Friday topic, I was inspired by the poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson, and his poem The Lady of Shalott.
In the story, the lady is cursed to stay in a tower of her castle, and view the world only through a mirror. One day she spies Sir Lancelot through her mirror, and flees her castle, surrendering to her desire to be with him in the outside world. Sadly, by the time she reaches the river, she has fallen foul to the curse..
The version of this poem I have is beautifully illustrated by an artist called Charles Keeping. His illustrations are inspiring.

This is gorgeous, I've just started illustrating the Lady of Shalott and I agree the original illustrations are beautiful. It is so hard to create something different but I think you've captured the sadness of the poem perfectly.
