This is my first time entering into Illustration Friday. The topic was Breakfast and I painted this with acrylics on canvas board. I haven't done very much traditional painting before, so I hope to use these topics to practice.
When I saw the topic, this was the image I had in my mind straightaway.
My boyfriend has unfortunately started eating prunes, and one morning a few weeks back I was taking out the rubbish, and somehow one of these prunes had found itself underneath the bins (ew)...
The days have been warm and much to my horror the prune had expanded into a small pile of maggots. I was a bit angry, as I dislike maggots more than I dislike prunes, so went off to make a cup of tea, before going back to deal with them.
When I returned, a robin stood inches away from my feet with all the maggots in her beak. As we stood staring at each other, one of the maggots freed itself and began to wriggle away. The robin cocked her head and risked hopping closer to me to snatch the maggot up again, before flying away.
And then I was happy again, knowing that a nest full of robins had a hearty breakfast.
